This is actually a friend of mine that I used to work with, and I came across this picture
0:03
when I was trying to figure out how many jobs I've had over the years. We were doing a repower one time and some dude was given my number from a girl, and he
0:11
started texting me pictures, trying to get pictures of what he thought was the girl
0:15
So we decided to break the bad news that he'd been given the wrong number by sending him
0:19
this picture here of my friend. And I used that picture as a thumbnail so I could tell that story
0:24
But I realized I've had 11 different jobs before I became a mechanic, and I've got a job to do
0:29
today, which is part of the reason on why I became a mechanic. And since I'm waiting on some
0:34
parts to come in for the Key West, I got to do this dash panel and do some stuff like that
0:39
I figured, while I do this other job, I could tell you the story of how I became a mechanic
0:44
and what made my decision to become a mechanic. And I don't really know if the number 11 is a lot of jobs or not that many jobs. I mean
0:58
You let me know how many of you had. But my first W-2 job was with my uncle doing construction
1:04
and a lot of remodels, stuff like that. We're gonna need some light. If you haven't figured it out
1:18
we gotta change the oil in the car. But my second job was then at a restaurant
1:22
I don't know, I was there probably, I don't know, maybe a year or so
1:26
It was a Mexican restaurant and I was a bus boy, that was pretty much it. I waited tables a couple times, but mainly just a bus boy. So
1:33
and then after that I did a little bit more construction and I got a job at a grocery store
1:42
I was actually at this grocery store twice, once in the produce department and then once in the
1:48
bakery, which again didn't really suit me what I like to do or any of that stuff. It was just
1:54
you know, you got to have money, so it was just a job. Actually, no, that's not right. After the
1:58
Mexican restaurant, I worked at a factory called Hydra Gear where they made
2:02
transmissions and machines stuff like that for tractors lawnmowers lawn equipment and things like that Then I did some more construction and then I worked at the grocery store twice
2:32
Then after the grocery store, it was. more construction work. I mean, I did a lot of like remodels, tile work, stuff like that. Anything
2:40
construction, that's pretty much what I was doing is remodels. So let's kind of add this up a little
2:46
bit. Just so I can keep track of everything. We had construction. Restaurant. Hydro gear. Construction
2:54
Grocery. Grocery. Construction. Construction. There. That's a lot more helpful. And then also
3:00
mind you, this was all in like a five-year period. So I want to say
3:05
This was Nietz four, like 06. This was like 05 to 06
3:11
This was 06 to 07. This was 07 to 08. This was 2008
3:21
This was 08 to 09. This was 2009. And this was also 2009
3:28
So I had like eight jobs in five years. And yeah, it just kept. going
3:53
Now after the last construction though, this is when I worked for AT&T
3:59
That was from like 09 to 2010. This was a call center. We pretty much
4:05
just took phone calls from people that had problems with their service and then we
4:11
would try and fix their service and then upsell them on all kinds of stuff it was pretty ridiculous because I mean it was like trying to sell dial internet and other things like that to people in the mountains that I mean
4:27
it was a it was just trying to upsell people so I didn't like that at all. Now after that though I'm like I don't know 21 22 around this time now so after the AT&T job
4:45
I got a job at a steel factory. At the steel factory, it was basically, I was there for a year
4:52
and we pretty much just slit down coils of steel. So we would take these giant rolls of steel
5:00
and we would cut them down to where, you know, like, say you've got a 60 inch roll of steel
5:08
we would cut it down into five pieces of 12 inch pieces of steel
5:15
So that was pretty interesting. I was there for a year, starting to kind of get stuff together
5:20
So this was from 10 to 11. This is about when I was starting to figure it out
5:25
because this is when I got a job at Publix and I moved to Orlando to go to MMI or Marine Mechanics Institute
5:36
And that was, I actually worked at Publix from 11 to 13
5:45
and then my was good it was all right i mean if you want the m m m m story you know just
6:05
let me know in the comments below i know i've seen a lot of comments of people that it went to
6:09
m m m m so you know maybe we'll make a video on that maybe some questions and answers or something like that
6:14
But other than that, this is when I got at Publix. And Publix and MMI is kind of what really got me into Shelter Bay which is the marina in Marathon And that is where I been ever since So the reason I went into MMI was because I always liked to fix things being mainly construction but at the
6:41
same time, anything mechanical, four-wheelers, dirt bikes, boats, any of that stuff. It's
6:45
always been like, that's what I'm good at, is building stuff, playing with Legos, puzzles
6:50
that kind of thing. I like to take things apart and fix things, and that is kind of what
6:55
drove me into wanting to become a mechanic. I think that once you find a passion for something, that is kind of what you ultimately need to do
7:15
If you like something, like they say, you'll never work a day in your life
7:19
But finding something that you're good at as well probably plays a pretty big part
7:25
in that and making sure that not only do you enjoy what you do but that you are good at it
7:33
I can't find my funnel so you can judge me. That's not too bad for not having a funnel
7:58
One little spill. When it comes to making money as a mechanic, it's actually kind of a slow game
8:04
You'll notice over the years through those 11 different jobs and all those different skills that I had to learn
8:09
and all those different trades that I learned, I picked up skills from each one of those
8:14
that helped shape me to become a better mechanic. Problem solving skills, people skills
8:21
talking at AT&T with other people, cold calling. all these kinds of skills that you learn, not from doing something or going to a school
8:30
but actually experiencing these things. And it is all of those different skills that allow you to make the most amount of money as possible
8:37
in whatever trade that you decide to go into
