0:00
So we're just going to start by taking stuff apart
0:16
This is what we're looking like so far. I got these two bolts out for here
0:20
I need to take those up there off so that way I can get this shroud off. And then probably take oil tank starter, electronics box
0:29
off and then take my carburetors off. Now we have a pretty
1:03
Now we got a pretty clear
1:31
So just need to take that bolt out, that bolt and that bolt right there
1:36
And that will allow me to at least pull this side of this shroud off and then I just need
1:42
to get to those two right there, which the oil pump is in the way
1:46
And I do not want to damage that oil pump. So I'm probably going to go ahead and just take these hoses and the oil tank out of the
1:52
way just to get all my space, which is kind of what I'm talking about today, which is one
1:58
of the skills that I wanted to talk about today and moving something that is in your way
2:02
I think a big skill that most mechanics learn is that if something is in the way, you should move
2:08
it because if not, you're just going to frustrate yourself and then you're going to end up breaking
2:11
something. And that is the last thing that you want to have to deal with is something that is
2:16
broken. So let me go ahead and take those two bolts out and then we'll come over here and
2:21
work on this side and get all this stuff out of our way. Honestly
2:34
Honestly, I am probably, I mean, there's a legitimate problem
2:48
I'm going to have to take off that oil pump. I got the oil tank over here to the side
2:53
I mean, this is not the best situation because, I mean, I did have this oil line popped
2:59
off of the oil pump. But yeah, and trying not to spill any
3:04
any oil I only got a little dribble down there from that line coming off but I am
3:09
gonna have to take that piece off the oil pump off in order to to
3:16
I'm gonna I'm I'm gonna I'm I need to move
3:27
I need to move this oil tank. stay here it is leaking a little bit out the top so I got a little bit of a leak
3:59
problem there so I'm losing oil I need to just disconnect it and go ahead and
4:04
move this whole thing out of the way disconnect my control cables
4:24
I'm gonna take the starter off, take the carbs off, just to lighten everything up
4:29
And then, yeah, then we will go ahead and pull the powerhead. So I'm just continuing to take stuff off so I can pull this up to make it as light as possible and as easy as possible
4:50
But one thing that I noticed is that when I pulled this off
4:54
Look at that. If that weren't going to be a problem, I don't know what would
4:59
Fuel lines completely broke. That is the intake of everything, so I'm glad I did find that because that would have been a whole issue that
5:08
would have took a while to find but found it pretty quickly and good thing I did so I going to go ahead and just continue taking stuff off to be able to pull this powerhead Now I want to go ahead and spray everything down to get all that metal and stuff away from that base gasket and away from the oil pump there just so that way when I do go to put this thing back together
5:31
and know these metal shavings or anywhere so just need to take some contact cleaner and blast a lot of the stuff out and out of the way
5:39
So clean that off and then now, I mean, taking the pocket cleaner
5:44
This powerhead's off not too hard, it's just heavy and that was all I was trying to avoid
5:48
So pretty much you got eight, 12 mils, and then back here you got one 12 mil
5:56
And other than that, that's pretty much all the bolts that hold this entire powerhead on
6:14
and the powerhead is stuck so i have all the bolts out you know the one bolt back here
6:28
there's four bolts around the side and then there's also you know one that goes up here so
6:33
that's that but other than that there are no other bolts holding the powerhead on um it's a very
6:41
very simple design not a whole lot to it two strokes why it's the beauty of it but
6:47
florida salt hurricane old all the reasons why shops don't work on two trucks anymore so
7:11
Okay, so we finally got it to pop free. Got the powerhead to lift up out of there
7:18
So now I need to pick this thing up and take it inside where I can work on it
7:22
What I did to get it to finally pop was just lifted up the pan like this
7:27
Used a bunch of peepie blaster around it to kind of soak in, get in that gasket, kind of get, you know, as much as I could
7:33
Took a two by six in the back back here, wedged it in there and then just pried up on it to pop the thing up
7:40
and get it up. So now what I need to do is make sure that I do not mess up the oil pump
7:46
but I will pick this thing up, take it inside to where we can work on it
7:53
Okay, there's what we're. Okay, there's what we look like
8:14
You can tell this is probably a big part of the problem where it was stuck at up here
8:18
Look at all that rust. Oh boy, that's quite a bit. I need to clean this whole surface off, get this old gasket
8:27
Look at this thing's all torn up and messed up. I can completely ripped up whenever I got
8:33
You can tell somewhere the PB Blaster had worked its way in
8:38
But look at all the dry spots where it had not even like, wasn't even close to getting
8:43
in there. And yeah, this is going to take a lot of work to clean this up, but we'll get this gasket
8:50
off of here later for right now. What I'm going to do is just going to take
8:53
kind of spray it down with some pee-bblaster to soften it up
8:57
Now, kind of help to soften it up, keep it wet, and then when we come back to try and get it off
9:06
it should make it easier to come off because it'll be, you know, let this blaster eat it up
9:16
When it comes to getting the gasket off, I just like to take a razor blade or something
9:21
or something trying to take a fresh one so that way you don't scratch this surface but we'll get all the gasket off that we can and then we're going to come back with a
9:31
Scotch bright um this is just a 3M Scotch bright rollock bristle bit or you know whatever it's like little rubber fingers and we're going to just polish all this surface off and that will prep it for when we go to put the powerhead back on
9:51
and there we go that is way cleaner than it started this is now ready for the powerhead to go back on
10:06
i would have imagined to see a little bit more corrosion around here around the exhaust than
10:11
up here in the front but i guess this is you know that's the most corrosion that i've seen right
10:16
here the rest of it's all pretty good couple spots around here that's a little bit but i guess
10:21
the gasket kind of covers over there so maybe water splashes up and kind of holds there a little bit and that's why those sides are corroding a little bit more not exactly sure I'm still waiting on the base gasket otherwise we would have put the powerhead on but until I get the gasket I can't put it on so that's how you pull a two-stroke powerhead
