Most of you already know what we do
0:20
And we love to help you out by showing you how to keep your boat on the water
0:30
But we'd like to show you a little bit more about where we live and why we do what we do
0:41
So we're going to take you on a little trip into our backyard and show you the four most
0:46
popular sandbars of the Florida Keys. Though there are many more sandbars than just these, we'll focus on the biggest ones being
0:57
the Almorata, Marathon, Big Pine, and Key West Sandbars. Now because of county tourist trespassing ordinances, we can't show you how to get to these
1:11
sandbars, so for legal purposes, we'll just show you what it looks like once you get there
1:24
We'll start with the Almerada Sandbar. Its location is unknown but it sits on the east side of a channel and is extremely distinguishable because it has a flagpole in the middle of the bar Sporting a beautiful American flag
1:48
It's a nice size sandbar, probably somewhere between a quarter mile and a half mile long
1:54
or just over half a kilometer. It is the only sandbar of the four that can be seen from the overseas highway
2:01
and on a good weekend you can see anywhere from 100 to 200 boats hooked up
2:05
Next up, we've got the Marathon Sandbar
2:21
This sandbar sits on the ocean side of the Keys and it's one of the longer sandbars in the Keys
2:27
It's roughly half a mile to three quarters of a mile long and can fit up to probably 400
2:47
On a really nice holiday like the 4th of July, you will usually see around 200 to 300 boats
2:52
anchored up in the sun. As we move down the keys and into the backcountry we find Big Pine most famous sandbar spot that tucked back into a little cove This sandbar is tricky because you can only fit a very shallow drafting boat into here and during some tides you can even get in at low tide
3:42
This is a location where you can float in at high tide and hand in
3:46
out until the tide goes out or you might find yourself stuck back in here for quite a few hours
3:57
It's a smaller sandbar with a channel that flows through the middle of it, giving us two nice white sandbars on each side
4:04
It's only a few hundred yards long though, so the capacity isn't anything like the other sandbars
4:10
You might find about a hundred smaller boats stuffed in here though during times like mini season
4:16
Then there are also a couple more sandbar spots on the east side of the cove as well
4:28
Now our last stop is going to be down in Key West. But some of you might be wondering to yourself, what about the Comtest Prize
4:35
Well, this week you get to pick your own prize. Well, you get to pick a portion of a prize, depending on what you want
4:41
because we've got a credit to replacementboatparts.com. This is the place where we found those awesome stainless steel deck drain covers for the Ocean Master Project boat
4:52
which, by the way, we just got the electronics ordered for, and we will be getting back onto that boat in the upcoming weeks And I put a link to that project playlist at the end of this video in case you haven seen that project yet Now down in Key West there are actually a few different sandbar spots that run along the gulf side of the back country But we focus here on the two
5:12
most popular spots. These aren't very long sandbars per se, probably about a quarter mile
5:18
but the first one is actually rather deep compared to the other three spots. And you can anchor up
5:23
all the way to the back of this one. Which can be a little tricky sometimes, so if you'd like to learn a couple of tricks about anchoring at the sandbar
5:44
you can check out the week before last video where we show the need to know sandbar and beach anchoring tricks
5:51
Then just a little bit to the east of this sandbar, you will find two more spots that sit on the side of these channels
6:05
These locations can get extremely busy during season. And you can find over 500 boats out here sometimes
6:23
